Title: Tensegrity

Description: I wrote an acrostic poem to honor the reciprocal interrelationship between structure and function. This lies at the heart of Osteopathic practice, just as the structure of this poem enables its function. Each line starts with the appropriate letter, generating, scaffolding, and flowing into the next, but guided by the following line before it is even formed. I titled the poem Tensegrity to finalize the homage, as each line in the poem is an isolated component that joins in a system, stabilized by a network of continuous, linguistic tension.

Tensegrity

Osteopathy is not only

Science, cold and calculated

Tempered and without passion, leaving out

Energy and motion, the unity of natural forces

Ordained to give rise to life, health, fibers and vessels of man, but also

Philosophy and art, dependent and harmonious, joined in a beautiful union of

Artist, craftsman and laborer, a pursuit of joy, rejecting entropy which

Twists and knots the body of man, which we rail against with

Hands, minds, and hearts used to force vital change,

Yearning for balanced harmony
