Course Description This virtual, live course is designed for students, residents, and attendings who would like to learn about integrating OMM into adult hospital and ICU care. Patient case scenarios will be used to illustrate principles of the osteopathic approach and potential technique applications in these settings. Other topics that will be reviewed are finding and treating Chapman’s points and viscerosomatic reflexes, interacting with the patient’s mind, body, and spirit in the context of the hospital, and practical considerations.
Course Learning Objectives
- Discuss general guidelines for using OMM in the hospital and ICU
- Introduce a paradigm for how OMM fits into medical care
- Review osteopathic approaches for representative hospital conditions
- Review finding and treating Chapman’s points and viscerosomatic reflexes
- Discuss mind-body-spirit considerations, with patient scenarios
