April 2025 Still Point

Author: Maaida Kirmani, OMS I

Chapter: UIWSOM

Description: This is a reflection on my experience with OMM over my first year of medical school. It also captures the shift I had in performing OMM as time passed. I learned to gain a deeper appreciation for the techniques I learned and this lead to a significant shift in my approach to both learning and performing OMM.

Feeling for Confidence

Seeing before me a sea of beds
While overwhelmed by new facts in my head
Had me wonder if I knew enough
Or if I would find performing OMM too tough?
When I made my first attempt
To perform a treatment
I was first filled with dread
And all the knowledge flew out of my head
With time, I soon realized
The techniques started making sense
And when I started working with patients
It made a difference.
Before, each attempt filled me with dread and fear
Now, I can make headaches disappear!
When I connect the details, I find
I know enough to make many pains subside
Without thinking, I know what to feel
And that I am capable of helping others heal.
